Discovery Kids Camp: Expedition Unknown 


Camp Information
  • Ages: 5-11
  • Monday through Friday 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Washington Park Recreation Building, 501 N. Rose Street
  • $120 per week or $40 per day
  • Field trip is NOT optional, counselors will not be left at camp
  • T-shirt is required for field trip and may be purchased at camp for $5

Space is Limited.  It is recommended that you register a minimum of  1 week in advance to insure your spot in camp.



Expedition Unknown Camp

Investigate interesting places and journey to far off lands without leaving camp (expect for the field trips) to discover what hides behind the next rock, tree, or mountain. No mystery is too big or too small as your budding eXplorist dives into the unknown!


Camp Information

  • Must arrive by 9:00 a.m. each morning

  • Field trips are not optional, counselors will not be left at camp

  • Weekly summer calendar will be available 6/4

  • Daily registrations are available in advance for only $40 – space is limited

  • Swim days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays.

  • Extra field trip on Fridays for select campers that model positive behavior


Session 1: June 11 – 15


Expedition Safari


Join us for an action-packed adventure as we go on an expedition around the world. From South America to Australia, we’ll discover the world’s wildlife through creative craft projects and interactive games that highlight each animal’s unique talent.

Session 2: June 18 – 22


Expedition Sports


Time to swing for the fences as this week explores healthy competition through sports activities. Campers will experience daily themed sports that conclude with a championship tournament.

Session 3: June 25 – 29


Expedition Archeology


Get dirty as we travel back in time to dig for dinosaur bones, create your own fossils, and make animal tracks. This camp will explore the intriguing world of archeology through hands-on activities.

Expedition Discovery


Scientific exploration begins here! Our scientist campers will test the limits of imagination making their own discoveries and performing experiments. Bottle rocket launchers, volcanos and silly slime are just a few of the activities that await.

Expedition Fun


Come join us during this fun filled week to get active. This week will be full of physical challenges while we track our progress daily. Team challenges, soccer, kickball, relay race, and swimming are just some of the many activities that will get your camper up and moving.

Session 6: July 16 – 20


Expedition Ocean


Time to explore the deep blue sea. Focusing on everything that swims, floats, and lives in the ocean, this camp will venture to depths unknown. Create an ocean in a bottle, sand art projects, and fish art. Then go clamming, compete in beach relays and play sharks and minnows.

Maritime Museum (7/18, Star of India)


Session 7: July 23 – 27


Expedition Space


Launch into space as we explore the final frontier. Campers will first need to compete in a series of challenges as a part of astronaut training before taking off. Our trek into space includes rocket launches, moon rock art, and out of this world games.

Palomar College Planetarium (7/26)


Session 8: July 30 – August 3


Expedition in the Dark


Some of the best discoveries are made in the dark. Have fun in this camp as we explore all things that glow-in-the-dark. Create glowing works of art, make “play glow”, and end the week with a blackout party!

Glow Zone North County (8/1)


Session 9: August 6 – 10


Expedition Summer


We all wish summer would never end, so let us take one last journey to make those lasting memories. This week is all about fun with water. Water balloons, swimming, water relays, and water art activities. Get ready to finish the summer off with a splash!

Counselors in Training (CIT)

1 week — Ages 12 – 15 — Washington Park Recreation Building


Escondido Community Services is offering an opportunity to gain valuable career skills and experience in working with youth through the Day Camp Program. CIT’s will be an integral part of the Day Camp Team by providing program support, partnering with staff on various projects, creating and implementing activities and assisting with the supervision of campers on site as well as on field trips. CIT’s will report to an experienced Lead Counselor.

Refund Policy

Refunds/credits may be requested until the second day of camp. The amount of the refund/credit will be the camp fee minus the daily rate ($40), based on the number of days elapsed, regardless of attendance. Refunds are assessed an additional 25% handling fee. Credits placed on account will not be assessed a handling fee and will expire one year from the date issued.


The above procedures have been implemented due to advanced payments we make to our vendors in the purchase of entry tickets, transportation, supplies, and staffing.
