Pool Locations

The City of Escondido has two local pool facilities, conveniently located at Washington Park and Grape Day Park. James A. Stone Pool hosts our lap swim and AquaFit classes, and Washington Park Pool hosts our Learn-to-Swim and Open Recreational Swim programs.

Swim Lessons:

Cost:   Youth Lessons - $40 for four 30 minute lessons    

            Adult and Teen Lessons-  $60 for for four 30 minute lessons     

Info/ Policies:

• All students will now be required to attend a skill assessment before they can enroll in classes for Dolphin, Starfish, Seahorse, and Seal levels. The Instructor will then assign the student a skill on their Amilia account that will allow the student to enroll in classes at the appropriate level.
• Assessments are held at James A Stone Pool during Lap Swim & AquaFit and at Washington Park Pool during swim lessons (on Saturdays).
• Students will be evaluated on the last class of each session, and will only be allowed to move on to the next level if the critical benchmarks are met. 
• To eliminate distractions and create a safety zone for certified lifeguards to patrol, families are not permitted on deck
  • An observation area is available at each pool.
• Life jackets are not permitted. It creates a false sense of security for participants when not wearing one and hinders swim skills development that are being taught.
• All participants should use the restroom and shower prior to entering the pool.
  • An opportunity will be given before class begins to do so.
• A swim diaper must be worn for youth participants of Me & My Shadow classes.
• Only preregistered participants are allowed, drop-ins are not permitted.

The City of Escondido has aligned itself with Starfish Aquatics Institute. The Starfish Swimming curriculum is designed for students ages 6-months to adult.  Benchmarks are established at each stage in the program that combine both swimming and safety skills.  Students participate in experiential learning activities that allow them to explore the water in a creative and comfortable environment. Correct swimming techniques are taught from the very beginning, providing an easy transition to swim team.
