The Downtown Escondido Makeover Continues: Grand Avenue

Construction updates

We are eager to share that the expanded sidewalks in Subphase 2, from Kalmia to Broadway, were completed last week. These newly widened sidewalks significantly elevate the downtown walking experience by improving accessibility and overall walkability. You can enjoy a more connected and pedestrian-friendly environment as you visit downtown favorites. The final transformations of Subphase 2 are beginning to take shape, with ongoing coordination between the team and subcontractors on the layout and installation of new decorative fencing. Please be aware that vehicle traffic will continue to be closed from Kalmia to Broadway until Subphase 3 construction is complete.

Work on Subphase 3, from Broadway to Maple, is progressing smoothly. Last week, our teams began working on curb and gutter installation. This week, crews have started to work on the new tree wells. You'll begin to see the formwork for these tree wells taking shape as the week progresses. We’re on track to complete Subphase 3 by Spring 2025 and reveal the exciting Grand Avenue transformation. Thank you for your continued patience and support!

Traffic Reminders: As we continue to reach milestones for the final phases of construction, we want to keep our community informed about important traffic updates. The intersection at Grand Avenue and Broadway is temporarily closed, and alternative routes are available via Valley Parkway and 2nd Avenue. Although the Kalmia traffic circle is open and through traffic has resumed from Juniper to Kalmia, the section from Kalmia to Maple remains closed to vehicles due to ongoing work in Subphase 3. For the safety of pedestrians near the Broadway intersection, please be alert and follow the posted signage using  the designated walkways. We sincerely appreciate your patience and support as we work to create a more vibrant, welcoming, and beautiful Grand Avenue for our community.
