The Downtown Escondido Makeover Continues: Grand Avenue

Construction updates

After successfully completing all demolition work in subphase 2, the construction crew moved on to sidewalk widening and other street improvements. During subphase 2, through traffic will remain closed from Kalmia to Broadway, but pedestrian access to businesses will remain available using the designated pedestrian access points and walkways.

Last week, Nationwide, the subcontractor, completed sidewalk paving and cleaning of subphase 1, enabling full access to the pedestrian walkways in time for Small Business Saturday. Nationwide continues to finish aspects of subphase 1, including custom outdoor fencing for restaurants, which will begin this week.

Free parking is available throughout the duration of the project and can be found using the interactive parking map or by following signage downtown. Please be sure to observe all traffic control signs and do not move traffic cones or barriers. To help protect public safety, please remain on the designated pedestrian walkways.

Cheers to Shopping Local!

Last weekend, the Escondido Downtown Business Association, in collaboration with the City of Escondido, hosted the annual Small Business Saturday event on Grand Avenue. A big thank you to everyone who came out to support and make this a successful event.

As construction continues, remember to keep visiting your favorite businesses along Grand Avenue, or check out the roller rink open through the end of December. Be sure to check out the project website for an interactive map of businesses open during construction.
