Athene Bitting
Athene's grandmother taught her to crochet when she was three years old. When she got the measles in the second grade, her babysitter taught her to knit. There was no stopping her after that. She knit sweaters for her Barbie, made hats and scarves and practice pieces. Someone paid her to make an intarsia sweater for a friend, and her exploration of color, cable knitting, and design opened up to her. Her approach to piecework is not about being strict and perfect, rather enjoying the colors & textures, and creating a fabric that will be used and loved.
